Job Description

Wedding & Event Setup Assistant

Freelance | Seasonal | In-person (Aberdeen & Shire)

📅 Application Deadline: Sunday 26th April 2026

We’re growing Team TAC again! 💕

At Thoughts & Crosses, we create wedding and event setups across Aberdeen & Shire. We’re looking for reliable, hands-on people to join our team behind the scenes. This role is perfect for someone looking to earn extra income, whilst being part of bringing weddings and events to life.

About the Role

This is a freelance, ad-hoc position where shifts are offered based on our bookings and can be accepted or declined.

Our busiest period is April to October, with most work taking place on weekends and often involving early morning starts.

  • Typically 1–2 weekends per month during peak season
  • Opportunity for additional shifts if you’re keen
  • Occasional weekday evening warehouse shifts may be available (optional)
  • For those with more flexibility, there may also be occasional daytime shifts on Fridays or Mondays, however this is not a core requirement of the role

This role is not suitable for someone relying on a fixed monthly income.

Pay

  • £15 per hour (freelance basis)
  • Paid per shift worked

What the Role Involves

Behind the Scenes:

  • Preparing décor and stock for upcoming weddings & events
  • Keeping the warehouse organised and tidy
  • Loading and unloading vans
  • Cleaning and resetting items after events

On the Day:

  • Travelling to venues across Aberdeen & Shire
  • Assisting with setup of wedding & event décor
  • Supporting room turnarounds (e.g. ceremony to reception)
  • Helping with pack down after events
  • Occasionally assisting at exhibitions or open days

A Realistic Look at the Role

Whilst you’ll be helping create beautiful wedding and event setups, this role is hands-on and physical.

  • Involves lifting and carrying equipment
  • Early starts (often from 6–7am depending on the venue)
  • Long days and fast-paced turnarounds
  • Working to tight timelines as part of a team

It’s incredibly rewarding, but it’s not just the “pretty” side of weddings.

Who This Role Suits

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Has a full-time or part-time job and is looking for extra income mainly on weekends, or is a student with flexible availability
  • Enjoys being active and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Takes pride in their work and has a strong work ethic
  • Is happy with flexible, non-guaranteed hours
  • Enjoys being part of a team and seeing a setup come together

What We’re Looking For

  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual work
  • Available for flexible, ad-hoc weekend work
  • Punctual, reliable, and a strong communicator
  • A positive attitude and willingness to get stuck in
  • Able to work both in a team and independently
  • Professional when interacting with clients, venues & suppliers
  • Able to reliably travel to our warehouse/HQ in Bridge of Don and venues (early starts may not suit public transport)
  • Legal right to work in the UK

Preferred (not essential):

  • Full, clean UK driving licence

You must be able to reliably travel to our warehouse/HQ in Bridge of Don for the start of shifts. Travel to venues will be in our company vehicles (no need to use your own car).

There may be opportunities for trusted team members to drive our vans as they gain experience. Added bonus if you are confident driving a trailer.

A Typical Day Might Look Like

  • Meeting at the warehouse/HQ early morning
  • Loading vans with décor
  • Travelling to a venue
  • Setting up arches, backdrops and styling
  • Supporting room turnarounds
  • Returning later to pack down
